NFT safety fundamentals

A chain-agnostic routine for staying safe: sources, signatures, approvals and seed phrases.

This guide is an outline. A long-form version with diagrams is in progress.

  1. 01

    Seed phrase stays offline

No marketplace, support agent or app ever needs your seed phrase. Any request for it is a scam.

  2. 02

    Use bookmarks

Reach every site from your own bookmarks. Search ads and DMs are common phishing routes.

  3. 03

    Read before you sign

If you cannot explain what a signature does, do not sign it.

  4. 04

    Separate wallets

Keep a browsing wallet for new sites and a vault wallet that rarely signs anything.

  5. 05

    Review regularly

Revoke old approvals and remove unknown sessions on a schedule.

Common mistakes

  • Entering a seed phrase to "restore" or "sync"
  • Trusting urgency: "offer expires in 5 minutes"
  • Signing blind messages to "log in"
